Aukje Dekker (1983, NL) graduated with honours from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2006. She works with a range of different media such as video, performance, photography, spatial installation and painting. Dekker creates situations or social events that play with and amplify the context of their circumstances. Often the effect of her work is to simply exaggerate the social structures that she finds around her, making them appear simultaneously both familiar and unfamiliar, always with a desire to induce a sense of strong emotion in herself and/or the viewer.

Aukje Dekker will show two films: Dancing Marathon 'We can do it, at least I can' (in collaboration with Kristian de la Riva), and Puking Rainbow.
The concept of the Dancing Marathon performance is rooted in the 1920's-40's sport of Marathon Dancing in which couples competed against each other in a game of endurance.
Aukje Dekker and her partner re-enacted the performance of one couple.
Palais Paradiso will show a four hour edit of the original thirteen hour film.

Puking Rainbow is a video installation showing a series of men continually vomiting the seven colours of the rainbow. The work highlights Aukje Dekkers state of mind and feelings about art, and the art world she participated in and was surrounded by, during her studies at Central St. Martins College in London.
