British-born Martin Butler was trained in theatre science and performance in Manchester and Choreography at the Hogeschool voor de Kunst in Amsterdam. Martin Butler creates work that invites multiple reading and develops a total stage image where a variety of associations and perspectives are offered.
Martin Butler will present The Watchers, a new media performance in collaboration with the Liminal Institute and Mediamatic. Constructing six areas of performance within Paradiso, the public is able to both watch and listen to these areas using new infra red optical binoculars. With this newly developed technology people can also hear what they see.
The total space becomes a stage or theatrical experience for the watching and watched that plays with borders of what is fiction? What is reality? What is recorded? What is live? What is staged? What is coincidental and what is constructed?
